Writing meme

Thu Feb 19, 2009, 3:40 AM
1. What led you to write?
I saw my sister writing poetry when i was younger and tried it myself and have been doing it since then.

2. When did you start writing?
Hmmm, the first time i remember writing stories was when i was eight or so... but i forget that. I started writing poetry when i was eleven, which is when i usually think i've started. haha. Memory's faulty.

3. What does writing represent in your life?
I don't know...a fact, happiness, clarity--things i try to achieve and do well.

4. Are you happy with your current style?
Mostly, i'm definitely suffering in the poetry-writing aspect. I can always improve.

5. Do you do editing?
Yes. I enjoy it a lot, but i also am known to be really bad about responding right away.

6. Do you read about writing (creative writing books, grammar books...)?
Yes. I had to for my creative writing classes and everything i read was really helpful. :)

7. Favorite genre?
Hmm, classic literature, especially romance literature. Harry Potter/fantasy. :)

8. Favorite author(s)?
J.K. Rowling, Jane Austen... oh I don't know... it's so hard to come up with authors that i love.

9. Favorite book?
Der, i wish I could give you just one. "Jane Eyre" comes to mind. I'm really big into my HP fandom at the moment, so HBP and DH are also top faves now...

10. What do you prefer to write?
Romance. It's so easy to think about.

11. Is there anything you can't write??
I'm terrible at anything violent or action packed. I'm pretty good on the emotive stuff... :)

12. What is the weirdest thing you have ever written?
Some of my dreams...

13. Choose a topic: love, death, friendship. Now write a couple of lines about it.
I have weird ways of coping with death. When i first found out about my grandparents died, i hardly cried. I was pretty quiet in my grieving, but now, six years after their death, especially my grandma's, i get really emotional. I don't think my emotion is "too late", per se, rather, it's just now i understand things in a different way.

14. Do you think you have influences from any professional writer? if so, which ones?
Yes, just about everyone i've read. But Rilke helped me shape my opinion about being an actual writer, so i'll give him credit where it's due. :)

15. Worst book you have read so far?
"The Devil Wears Prada"... god i hate that book.

16. Why is it so bad, in your opinion?
The writer and editor have no mind for grammar, the characters are badly developed, it's a vapid book, and an absolute waste of my time. The author gives people named "Lauren", like me, a bad rep.

17. Choose one of your characters and describe them in 3 words.
Louise (teen-age years): angry, manipulative, drama-queen

18. Does your character feel 'alive'?
I'm not sure what you mean by "alive". I think she had no idea of what reality is, and in some senses she's feels alive, but not for the right reasons.

19. Could you kill this character?
haha, no. When she's a teenager she's ridiculous, but she has redeeming qualities that come later.

20. Do you hate any of your own characters?
Hmmm... no... not yet. I don't think i've gotten there.

21. Now, let's be honest. Every writer has their own favorite creation: what's your favorite story, out of everything you have written/planned to write? and character?
My comb story--featuring Louise. I will write it one day.. i think i've been talking about it too much. I need to take some time out and really write it down one day.

22. Have you ever abandoned an idea for a story? Why?
Yes, mostly because of writer's block. I write so much and then i get stuck and then lose interest... rather silly of me, i think.

23. Have you ever deleted a whole piece of work? Why?
yes. It doesn't feel right.

24. And finally: make up a completely original character right now and describe them briefly. It doesn't even have to be human!
Sanj: a rather peaceful person, an indian coming to england to start anew and befriends Louise.
